Talk to examine influence of race on one's perception of threat

Bates College professor to discuss the impact of race on judgment and decision making

Dr. Michael Sargent, psychology professor at Bates College, Lewiston, Maine, will give a talk from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 7, in 3M Auditorium, Owens Science Hall, St. Paul campus.

He will discuss research which found that objects that are not weapons are more often misclassified as weapons when they appear close in time or space to an African-American, rather than to a Caucasian.

His talk is part of the UST Psychology Department Colloquium series.
