UST and SCU present ‘ComedySportz: University League’ Oct. 16-17 and 23-24

Students from the University of St. Thomas and the St. Catherine University will play "ComedySportz: University League," at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, Oct. 16-17 and 23-24, on St. Thomas’ St. Paul campus. The first three performances will be held in Brady Educational Center auditorium. The last performance will be held in O’Shaughnessy Educational Center auditorium.

Tickets are $5 for general admission and free to students, faculty and staff with ID from the Associated Colleges of the Twin Cities (St. Thomas, St. Catherine, Augsburg College, Macalester College and Hamline University). Seating is limited; reservations will be taken at The O'Shaughnessy Ticket Office at St. Catherine, (651) 690-6700.

“ComedySportz” is improvisational comedy played as a sport, featuring two teams of comedy “actletes” competing for laughs and a referee keeping things moving and calling fouls. The performers make up scenes on the spot based on audience suggestions. The professional “ComedySportz” league has a 25-year history; the organization began in 1984 in Milwaukee, Wis. Today, more than 20 U.S. cities (including Minneapolis) have licensed professional ComedySportz organizations. ComedySportz alumni include cast members and writers from The Second City Theater in Chicago and TV shows “Saturday Night Live,” “Whose Line Is It, Anyway?” “Thank God You’re Here” and “MADtv.”

Directing the UST-SCU production are Nate Hessburg and Halsey Lindquist, professional cast members at ComedySportz Twin Cities, and Jo Ann Holonbek, chair of St. Catherine University’s Theater Department.

The cast includes St. Thomas students Beth Anderson, Jesse Arch, Paul Blaschko, Renée Cattoor, Allie Cleary, Ruth Heyer and Sam Sorich, and St. Catherine students Adara Bryan and Sarah Yaekel.
