UST Celebrates International Education Week, Oct. 1-5

The celebration of International Education Week at the University of St. Thomas begins today, Monday, Oct. 1, and continues through Friday, Oct. 5.

"Americans across our country and people around the world are touched by international education in positive ways," said Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, "and we should all be proud to celebrate International Education Week. Wherever you are, I encourage you to join me in recognizing international education as an important investment in our common future." You can celebrate with UST's International Programs by participating in these activities on campus:

Tuesday, Oct. 2

  • Japanese tea ceremony – noon-1:30 p.m. in the Fireside Room, Murray-Herrick Campus Center

    Learn about the traditional Japanese Tea Ceremony. Sample traditional Japanese tea and sweets. This event is sponsored by the Office of International Student Services.

  • CultureLink information session – 3:30-5 p.m. in Room 155, Murray-Herrick Campus Center

    Learn about the CultureLink Friendship Family and Communication Partner programs. Tea and refreshments will be served. This event is sponsored by the Office of International Student Services.

Thursday, Oct. 4

  • International Fair – 11:30-1:30 p.m. in Coughlan Field House

    See the world from the inside when you tour the 17-foot tall (22-foot diameter) Earth Balloon. When you enter the balloon through an entrance in the Pacific Ocean, you will learn about rain forests, the "ring of fire," time zones, population clusters, migration, human impact on the Earth and many other topics.

    The Student Cafe line will be moved to the Coughlan Field House and will feature an international dish.

    This event is sponsored by the International Programs Matrix.

Friday, Oct. 5

  • Multicultural and International Student Services student and family reception – 5-7 p.m. in the Fireside Room, Murray-Herrick Campus Center

    Everyone is welcome to this evening of fellowship, food and fun! Enjoy connecting with family, friends and St. Thomas faculty and staff. Hot hors d'oeuvres and refreshments will be served. This event is co-sponsored by the Office of International Student Services and Multicultural Student Services.

  • International game night – 7 p.m. at Scooter's, lower level, Murray-Herrick Campus Center

    You are invited to this evening of fun and games. This event is co-sponsored by the ELS Language Center and the Globally Minded Student Association (GMSA).
