History of the scholarship
The Fred J. Lauerman Scholarship at St. Thomas was established by Thomas Dolan and a few of his classmates in honor of Fred Lauerman, another of their classmates of the Class of 1951. Lauerman apparently struggled with several addictions throughout his life. In establishing the scholarship, Dolan hoped to assist students at St. Thomas who were recovering from alcohol or chemical addictions with an annual scholarship. The general criterion to receive this scholarship is that the UST student be in an active program or recovery.
