What it Takes to Become CFO of the Year

Kim Nelson has only been a chief financial officer since 2007, when she joined SPS Commerce Inc. But she’s already achieved one thing few other CFOs have in that time: A successful initial public offering.

Nelson, an alumna of the Executive UST MBA, was attracted to the post at SPS due partly to the company’s growth, culture and focus on customers, reported the Business Jouornal. SPS is a leading provider of on-demand supply chain management solutions.

“I spent a lot of time really fostering relationships with a variety of bankers and research analysts,” she said. Nelson also led the company through a range of procedural changes, such as conducting quarterly, rather than annual, financial reviews, and bringing on an independent board director.

"We would like to congratulate Kim Nelson on receiving this award for her leadership and expertise," stated Archie Black, president and CEO of SPS Commerce. "In less than three years at SPS Commerce, Ms. Nelson has been responsible for the company's financial strategy and was instrumental in our company's successful IPO in April 2010. We are delighted to have her as a part of our management team and see her publicly recognized for her achievements."
