Women: Learn self-defense techniques Tuesday

Public Safety invites female UST students, faculty and staff to attend a free Women's Self-Defense Workshop from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 18, in the sport court of the third-floor gym, O'Shaughnessy Hall athletic building.

Diana Rathborne will lead the workshop. Rathborne is assistant instructor and head of women's programs at the Minnesota Kali Group. She has taught self-defense in the Twin Cities for many years, working with schools, nonprofit groups, corporations, and law enforcement.

The class will cover self-defense concepts such as:

  • Awareness and avoidance
  • Body, mind and mind-set
  • Simple skills and physical tools

This will be a hands-on session; participants will apply the skills that are taught during the session. Come in comfortable clothes and remember to bring water.

The workshop is being sponsored by many campus organizations as part of Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
