Women's center announces 2010-11 Curriculum Development Grant winner

Dr. Sarah Schmalenberger, Music Department, has been awarded the Luann Dummer Center for Women's 2010-11 Curriculum Development Grant for her proposal, “’Women’s Work’ in Music: Cultivating a Sense of Identity, Belonging, and Service in Communities.”

This course will examine the work of women patrons of music and women music institution builders in the United States. It will include a community-based learning piece that will move students away from the notion of “volunteerism” and into service that is transformative in its ongoing commitment to cultivate advocacy for the well-being of women and girls in society.

The center's advisory board noted that "we had many strong applicants this year, and we are grateful for the commitment to topics related to women evidenced by our faculty."
