The John A. Ryan Institute for Catholic Social Thought of the Center for Catholic Studies is organizing its upcoming conference on “Prosperity, Poverty and the Purpose of Business: Rediscovering Integral Human Development in the Catholic Social Tradition.” The conference, co-sponsored by Ateneo de Manila University, De La Salle University and De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde, will be held Feb. 26-28 in Manila, Philippines.
Over 200 participants from 22 countries will gather to discuss the crucial issues that surround the interaction of poverty and prosperity and how Catholic social thought and Catholic business education can inform the discussions of poverty in relation to human development and the common good.
Participants from the University of St. Thomas include: Dr. Jeanne Buckeye, conference co-chair, interim director of the John A. Ryan Institute and associate professor in ethics and business law of the Opus College of Business; Dr. Michael Naughton, conference co-chair, interim director of the Center for Catholic Studies; Dr. Ameeta Jaiswal-Dale, associate professor of finance of the Opus College of Business; and Mary Kay O’Rourke, coordinator, John A. Ryan Institute of the Center for Catholic Studies.
Keynote addresses will be given by Luis Cardinal Antonio Tagle, archbishop of Manila, and Stefano Zamagni, prominent Italian economist.
