Applications due today for Ireland Fund for New Initiatives
Applications are due today for Ireland Fund for New Initiatives grants. All faculty and staff are invited to apply.
Several years ago, the university received a grant from the Lilly Endowment as part of a nationwide effort to stimulate a theological exploration of the idea of vocation on college campuses. The University of St. Thomas grant project, Beyond Career to Calling, enables the university to support a wide range of programs on campus.
As part of this larger project, the Ireland Fund for New Initiatives encourages faculty and staff programs and activities that support the objectives of Beyond Career to Calling. The fund provides one-time seed money to help launch activities that will be sustained by other areas of the university.
Proposals must address one or more of Beyond Career to Calling's three themes. The first theme concerns the priesthood and religious life. Projects focused on this theme help students consider the possibility of such a vocation in the Church.
The second theme concerns vocation in a larger sense. Projects focused on this theme take a variety of forms but their overall purpose is to help students think about their lives as an integrated whole, especially in terms of integrating faith with career preparation.
The final theme concerns reflection among faculty and staff on the vocation of the university itself; that is, how St. Thomas lives out its institutional mission as a Catholic university.
Applications are due today, Tuesday, April 10. Three, or possibly four, awards will be made, with amounts normally in the $3,000 to $5,000 range.
