Association for Strategic Planning 2008 breakfast talk is March 25

MaryAnn Stump, chief innovation officer, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota, and president, Consumer Aware Inc., will speak on "Innovation in Health Care: Doing Things Differently and Doing Different Things" on Tuesday, March 25, in Room 202, Opus Hall, Minneapolis campus.

This event is part of the Association for Strategic Planning 2008 Breakfast Series. Registration will begin at 7 a.m., breakfast at 7:15 a.m. and Stump will speak from 7:45 to 9 a.m.

She will discuss the emerging opportunities to transform the health care system through consumer-focused design, and will highlight key strategies for partnering with consumers in order to understand health care from their perspective. An open dialogue, with questions and comments from the audience, will follow her formal remarks.

Stump is a recognized leader in health care consumerism, inviting health care providers and stakeholders to work collaboratively toward providing consumers with the information they need to make intelligent health care decisions. She led the development of Healthcare Facts®, which has attracted national attention for its consumer-friendly "nutrition label" approach to comparing hospitals and health care providers.

A former cardiac critical care nurse, Stump was the lead architect of the Blue Cross Cardiac Center of Excellence Program as well as Minnesota's first community-based residential treatment facility for eating disorders. She serves on the Blue Cross Foundation Board and the Yale College of Nursing Advisory Board and was a former member of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation National Advisory Board; additionally, she is past president of Minnesota Healthcare Quality Professionals.
