'Celebrating Differences' is a collaboration
In an effort to unite the St. Thomas community, Hana, which means "family" in Hawaiian and "one" in Korean, invited all student groups to a series of meetings to discuss the concept of celebrating differences. All students clubs and organizations were invited.
It was imperative that "Celebrating Differences" be a collaborative effort and not just the production of one group. The numbers of student representatives from a variety of clubs grew with each meeting. Soon Hana had a solid base of groups eager to participate. The concepts of cultural awareness, collaboration among student groups, a lasting and binding tradition, and community solidarity became the students' goals.
The clubs and organizations that worked together to plan and sponsor "Celebrating Differences" are:
- ANSA (African Nations Students Association)
- Club De Espanol
- GMSA (Globally Minded Student Association)
- Hana
- Japanese Club
- ODK (Omicron Delta Kappa honor society)
- SAC (Student Alumni Council)
- Shotokan Karate Club
- STAR (St. Thomas Activities and Recreation)
- St. Thomas Dance Club
- USG (Undergraduate Student Government)
