Candace Chou from the UST School of Education and Björn Stansvik from MentorMate will speak on “Essential Mobile Learning Apps for E-Learning, Authoring and Project Management” at the Digital Learning Forum’s monthly presentation on Monday, Oct. 10.
The presentation and discussion will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in Room 117, McNeely Hall, on the St. Paul campus. Guests can arrive at 6:15 p.m. to network with other professionals in the Twin Cities area. The event is free and open to the public. Registration is not required.
About the program
With 25 million iPads sold worldwide, iPads are increasingly utilized for K-20 education and work-place learning. This presentation highlights essential iPad apps that allow instructional designers, educators, and trainers to continue their work on the go. The apps are divided into the following categories: communication, word processing, presentation, conceptmapping, note-taking, project management, brainstorming, annotation tools, and E-book readers. The first half of the presentation will be an overview of the apps. The second half will be an in-depth introduction of iQpakk, a mobile learning content management system.
iQpakk was developed based on Bloom’s Taxonomy as the learning foundation for the delivery of interactive courses. iQpakk consists of four components: the Learner, the Manager, the Generator, and the Presenter. The Learner allows one to review content, record notes, take quizzes and complete assessments of courses that are stored on their device's local database. The Manager allows the administrators to track and review test scores and designate the content that will be distributed to learners. The Generator can convert existing PowerPoint® presentations, videos, and PDFs into compelling curriculum. The Presenter is similar to the Learner component, but focuses on the end-user. It functions both as a job aid and as sales collateral. Examples of various types of content that can be delivered via iQpakk will be showcased.
About the presenters
Candace Chou
C. Candace Chou is an associate professor of Learning Technology at the Department of Organization Learning and Development at the University of St. Thomas. She holds a Ph.D. in Communication and Information Sciences from the University of Hawaii. She has been designing and implementing online and blended learning for more than a decade. She teaches courses on instructional design for E-Learning, online teaching and evaluation, immersive learning through Virtual Worlds, and web-based curriculum. She administers the E-Learning Certificate and Master of Arts in Technology for Learning, Development, and Change program. Her main research interests include design of distance learning environments, strategies of blended learning, pedagogy of immersive learning, and online interactions. She is a regular speaker at local, national and international conferences.
Björn Stansvik
Björn Stansvik is founder and CEO of MentorMate and iQpakk.
