Music Department Presents Five December Concerts

The University of St. Thomas welcomes the public to the music performances listed below. The Christmas concert will be held at Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis; all other performances will be held on the university’s St. Paul campus. Admission to the Christmas concert is $15; music events on the St. Paul campus are free. For more information call the St. Thomas Music Department, (651) 962-5850.

December performances:

  • African Music Ensemble
    The African Music Ensemble, directed by Sowah Mensah, will give a concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3, in Brady Educational Center auditorium.
  • Christmas concert
    Now in its 22nd year, the College of Arts and Sciences’ Department of Music presents two performances of this year’s Christmas concert on Sunday, Dec. 5, at Orchestra Hall in downtown Minneapolis. Titled “All My Heart This Night Rejoices,” the concerts will be given at 4 and 7:30 p.m. Featured will be seven of the department’s vocal and instrumental ensembles presenting carols and traditional and contemporary music reflective of the Advent and Christmas seasons.   • Instrumental Jazz and Jazz Singers
    Instrumental Jazz and Jazz Singers, conducted by Jeff Rinear and Denis Allaire, present an evening concert of favorite standards and contemporary jazz arrangements. The performance will be given at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7, in Brady Educational Center auditorium.
  • Guitar Ensemble
    The Guitar Ensemble, which performs music for multiple guitars and bass, will give a concert at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 8, in Brady Educational Center auditorium. The ensemble, conducted by Joan Griffith, is known for presenting a diverse concert of Renaissance, 20th century, jazz and rock music.
  • Hamline University Winds/UST Symphonic Band
    The St. Thomas Music Department welcomes the Hamline University Winds for a joint concert with the UST Symphonic Band, under the direction of Dr. Douglas Orzolek. After performing separately, the two bands will close the concert with a finale of shared pieces. The performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 10, in Brady Educational Center auditorium.
