Fall Fitness Classes Now on Sale at Tommie Central

Fall fitness classes can be purchased at Tommie Central in packages of either 8 or 24 class meetings that span the fall semester. Classes will begin the week of Monday, Sept. 17, at the Anderson Athletic and Recreation Complex. The classes are offered on a first-come, first-served basis and are open to all St. Thomas undergraduate students, and graduate and professional students, faculty and staff who are AARC members.

All sessions will be held in one of the AARC’s aerobic studios, Room 112 or 113, and will be sold at the following rates:

Single Session, Session 1
Eight classes offered from Sept. 17 to Oct. 11 – $45 for faculty and staff, $35 for students

Full-Semester Package
24 classes offered from Sept. 17 to Dec. 13 – $120 for faculty and staff, $90 for students

Schedule of classes:

Jazzercisenoon-1 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays in Room 113

Burn up to 600 calories in one fun and effective 60-minute total body workout. Every Jazzercise group fitness class combines dance-based cardio with strength training and stretching to sculpt, tone and lengthen muscles for maximum fat burn. Choreographed to today’s hottest music, Jazzercise is a fusion of jazz dance, resistance training, Pilates, yoga and kickboxing. See and feel the results: Participants dance to get fit and change the shape of their bodies.

Sculpt4-5 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays in Room 113

Sculpt is a yoga-inspired workout that tones the whole body. Free weights used in the class allow individuals to personalize the intensity of the workout. During this four-week program, class members will build lean muscle, burn calories and boost their metabolism.

Spinningnoon-1 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays in Room 113

Spinning is a great way to get a vigorous workout through burning calories and keeping muscles in shape. Set to heart-pumping music and featuring changes in speed and intensity, spinning offers a calorie burn comparable to aerobics without the high level of joint impact. Spinning is for everyone from the beginner to the highly experienced exerciser and for all fitness levels. The instructor incorporates basic to intermediate techniques with a focus on proper form and offers more challenging options for experienced participants.

TRX4-5 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays in Room 113

Ready for the challenge? TRX is high-intensity resistance suspension training. During this four-week program, participants will push their bodies to the next level. These intense workouts build strength, balance and flexibility.

Basic Yoga5:15-6:15 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays in Room 112

Basic Yoga is ideal for anyone new to yoga and interested in its benefits. This beginner-level power yoga sequence will help participants build strength, increase flexibility and find focus. Power yoga is a challenging and dynamic Vinyasa series, meaning breath is linked to movement. This Level 1 class is set to music and moderately paced for individuals to learn the fundamental power yoga postures and principles that create a successful and effective yoga practice.

Intermediate Yoga5:15-6:15 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays in Room 112

For individuals who have taken a few introduction to power yoga classes and are curious about what is next, intermediate power yoga is a class designed to support the transition. Intermediate yoga will introduce participants to postures common in an advanced power yoga class. They will move at a pace designed to build internal heat and engage and build core strength while focusing on alignment and breath. Each session will build into a rigorous yoga class with demanding strength postures. Previous experience with power yoga is highly recommended.

Zumba
Section 1, 5:15-6:15 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays in Room 113
Section 2, 5:15-6:15 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays in Room 113

Zumba incorporates all aspects of an energizing, calorie-burning workout. This easy to follow Latin-inspired, dance-aerobics class moves every part of the body.
