Jim Towey, a friend and legal counsel for the late Mother Teresa, will discuss “Mother Teresa: Reflections on Why Her Work is Just Beginning” in a talk at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 30, in the auditorium of O’Shaughnessy Educational Center on the St. Paul campus of the University of St. Thomas.

Towey will share insights into Mother Teresa’s trial of faith and how her teachings will impact the 21st century.
A Florida native and a lawyer by training, Towey represented Mother Teresa from 1985 until her death in 1997. In 1996 he founded Aging With Dignity, a nonprofit organization focused on honoring the human dignity of those at the end of life, and from 2002 to 2006 he served under George W. Bush as head of the White House Office for Faith-Based Initiatives.
He served as president of St. Vincent’s College in Latrobe, Pa., from 2006 to 2010. He recently was named as the new president of Ave Maria University in Florida; he will assume that role in July.
