When we engage in service-learning, we often come in contact with people from different cultural backgrounds than our students or ourselves.
The Intercultural Communication in Service-Learning workshop will explore some of the ways we can communicate more effectively across cultural boundaries, helping us to build trust and collaboration with our community partners. Topics will include cultural values and practices and their impact on communication, approaches to communication that will assist in building bridges between communities, and approaches to assessment that can be used to guide reflection on the success levels of the service-learning project and intercultural communication.
The workshop will be led by Kevin Sauter, professor in the Communication and Journalism Department and faculty director for Service-Learning.
This workshop will be held from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 28, in Room 315, McNeely Hall. It is sponsored by the Office for Service-Learning and Faculty Development.
