The Art History Department announces two events:
- “Linotype: The Film” to be shown Friday, April 13.
- Senior Nick Tuttle represents St. Thomas at ACTC Undergraduate Art History Symposium Saturday, April 14.
“Linotype: The Film”
“Linotype: The Film” will be shown at 7 p.m. tomorrow in O’Shaughnessy Educational Center auditorium. This showing is free and open to the public.
Craig Eliason, associate professor, Department of Art History, is part of a team bringing “Linotype: The Film” to the Twin Cities. The lauded documentary about the revolutionary type-casting machine invented in Thomas Edison’s day will make its Minnesota screening debut at St. Thomas. Eliason’s review of a recent book about type designer Roger Excoffon will appear in the next issue of Design and Culture.
This event is presented by AIGA Minnesota, Studio on Fire and the University of St. Thomas.
ACTC Undergraduate Art History Symposium
The first annual Associated Colleges of the Twin Cities (ACTC) Undergraduate Art History Symposium will be held Saturday, April 14. The event celebrates the exemplary art historical scholarship of students in the Associated Colleges of the Twin Cities.
Nick Tuttle, a University of St. Thomas senior, will present his research on “Marian Images in the Art of Hispanic Latin America” at the symposium.
Free and open to the public, the event will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. in Room 102, Visual Arts Building, St. Catherine University.
This is the first time the ACTC Symposium has been a student event – in the past it was a faculty symposium. Students nominated by their departments will present their papers in a rigorous format on par with professional academic conferences.
The symposium affirms the ACTC consortium’s commitment to academic excellence and facilitates scholarly dialogue among art history students and faculty alike. It provides an invitation to experience the intelligence of art.
