Liturgical Choir benefit nets $2,500 for Xavier University Music Department

It was a special day all around last Sunday, April 23, as the Liturgical Choir hosted a concert to benefit New Orleans' Xavier University Music Department and honored a few of their own, too.

The concert, with celebrated Twin Cities gospel singer Robert Robinson and guest performers, raised $2,500 for Xavier, a historically African American university. Xavier's music department suffered major damage from Hurricane Katrina. Not only were its instruments destroyed, but its choir robes and sheet music were lost.

The concert also featured a special presentation of the Carrie Larson Memorial Scholarship to choir members Christine Prokop and Molly Sagerhorn. The $5,000 scholarships were established by John and Marilyn Larson in memorial of their daughter, a 1989 St. Thomas alumna and Liturgical Choir member.
