Mark your calendar for the March Through the Arches on Sept. 4

Please join us on Tuesday, Sept. 4, as we welcome our newest students to the University of St. Thomas community.

For the past several years, we have marked this occasion with the March Through the Arches. This tradition began in 2000 and is a bookend event to graduation .

At commencement, students process through a similar set of arches placed at the entrance to the athletic field where the ceremonies are held. Each event symbolizes the beginning and ending of their life as a student at UST.

For the March through the Arches, new first-year students, transfer students and international students gather on the Summit Avenue side of the arches and, after a welcome from Father Dennis Dease, president of the University of St. Thomas, walk through the arches and into Schoenecker Arena for the New Student Convocation. We expect to greet well over 1,000 students again this fall.

Here’s your chance to get involved! As the students walk to the arena, they are applauded by faculty, staff and students. This is the reason that some people call this event the “quad applaud.”

New students are being asked to gather at 9:15 a.m. Faculty, staff and current students are asked to gather on the lower quad at 9:25 a.m. The procession will begin at 9:30 a.m. following Dease’s remarks.

Thank you in advance for contributing to this UST tradition. For more information, call the Dean of Students Office, (651) 962-6050.
