Newsroom to Transform the Way We Communicate

As you read in the July 30 Bulletin Today, University Relations is set to launch a news and information website called the Newsroom. Beginning on Aug. 13, you will no longer receive daily emails from Bulletin Today.

Instead, the Newsroom will send out periodic emails targeting specific audiences with information tailored to their needs.

The Week Ahead

On Mondays, faculty and staff will receive their version of “The Week Ahead,” listing deadlines, notices, meetings and other important “housekeeping” information they are accustomed to receiving via Bulletin Today. Students also will receive their own version of “The Week Ahead” on Mondays, which will include notifications that target students specifically.

Most notices that appear in “The Week Ahead” emails will be visible on the Newsroom homepage in the top level navigation under “Notices” and near the bottom of the page under “Notices for Students” and “Notices for Faculty/Staff.” In addition, students will be able to access notices when they log into UST Portal, and both students and faculty/staff will be able to access targeted notices when they log into Blackboard.

On Wednesdays, the entire community will receive “The Midweek” email, which will highlight some of the latest feature stories and news that appeared in the Newsroom over the previous seven days. On Thursdays, “The Weekender” will appear in inboxes and will feature events for the upcoming weekend.

Submissions for the stories that will appear in “The Week Ahead” as well as ideas for feature stories can be submitted to news.stthomas.edu.

You’ll also find new content in the Newsroom. Some features we’re working on include:

  • The Weigh-In: Commentary pieces written by faculty members highlighting their research, current events and trends.
  • Tommie Traditions, Why do we do That?: A periodic feature on different St. Thomas-isms and the history behind them.

Other new features will include a photo blog and multimedia content, including slideshows and videos. And don’t forget that the Newsroom is also home to articles from all five university magazines: St. Thomas, B., St. Thomas Lawyer, CAS Spotlight and Perspectives.

During the transition, Bulletin Today will continue to accept submissions prior to the Aug. 13 launch of the Newsroom, but it will only be published in cases of urgent news or emergencies.

For more information, contact any member of the Newsroom staff. Follow the countdown to the Aug. 13 launch at https://news.stthomas.edu/.
