Athans was a professor of church history at The Saint Paul Seminary School of Divinity from 1984 until her retirement in 2002. She wrote a history of the seminary, To Work for the Whole People: John Ireland’s Seminary in St. Paul, published in 2002.
Funeral services will be on Monday, Dec. 16, in the Marian Hall Chapel at 1100 Carmel Drive, Dubuque, Iowa, 52003-7991. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m., sharing of memories at 11 a.m. and Mass of Christian Burial at 1:15 p.m. Father Rick Banker from Bloomington, Minnesota, will preside.
