The Eastern European Club requests your prayers for the victims of the plane crash on Saturday, April 10, in Smolensk, Russia. Among the 96 who died in the crash were Poland's president Lech Kaczynski, his wife, the chief of the Polish general staff, the navy chief commander, the head of the central bank, the head of Poland's Olympic Committee, and many other public figures.
The plane was carrying a delegation to Russia to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Katyn Forest Massacre in which more than 4,000 Polish officers and other prisoners were executed by the Soviet Secret Police in 1940. (More than 17,000 other prisoners also were executed at the time at other sites.)
