Poetry slams with open mics will be held Oct. 17, Nov. 8
Students, faculty and staff are invited to participate in two poetry slams with open mics. These events will feature an open mic from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. and a poetry slam from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17, and Wednesday, Nov. 8, at Scooter's, lower level, Murray-Herrick Campus Center.
To compete in the slams, bring two poems under three minutes long. No props, costumes or musical accompaniment are allowed. Judges are selected from the audience, they assign points to poems and the person with the most points wins. Winners get cash and other prizes; door prizes also will be awarded.
No registration is required. These events are free but a $2 or $3 donation is suggested. Help PSST (Poetry Slam St. Thomas) get to the national competition again this year!
Anyone can come and watch the two poetry slam events, but only the UST community can compete.
If you have questions, e-mail Lisa Arnold in the Theater Department.
PSST is sponsoring these events. The group meets at 5 p.m. Mondays to write, talk about and plan performance poetry events. New members with any experience level are welcome!
