Father James Burns (Graduate School of Professional Psychology) has accepted an invitation to be a peer reviewer for two academic journals: the Psychology of Religion and Spirituality and the Journal of Catholic Higher Education. The Psychology of Religion and Spirituality publishes peer-reviewed, original articles related to the psychological aspects of religion and spirituality. The journal publishes articles employing experimental and correlational methods, qualitative analyses and critical reviews of the literature. The Journal of Catholic Higher Education seeks to advance important scholarly contributions to Catholic higher education. It is the only international journal dedicated solely to Catholic higher education.
Dr. Daniel Carey, (College of Arts and Sciences (Health and Human Performance Department); Dr. German J. Pliego, College of Arts and Sciences (Computer and Information Sciences Department); Dr. Robert Raymond, College of Arts and Sciences (Computer and Information Sciences Department); and Courtney Tofte '08, (College of Arts and Sciences (Health and Human Performance Department) are the authors of "Transferability of Running and Cycling Training Zones in Triathletes: Implications for Steady-State Exercise," published in the January issue of the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research.
Doug Hennes, University Relations, has been reappointed to a three-year term on the Mendota Heights Planning Commission. He first was appointed to the commission in 2007.
Dr. Ameeta Jaiswal-Dale, Opus College of Business, is author of "Global Standards and Ethical Stock Indexes: The Case of the Dow Jones Sustainability Stoxx Index," published in the April issue of Journal of Business Ethics and "US Financial Institutions: Reputational Risk and Senior Management Sell Decisions," published in the January proceedings of the International Business and Economy Conference in Udaipur, India. She also will present her research, " Reputational Risk and Financial Institutions," in April at the European Financial Management Symposium on Risk Management in Financial Institutions in Nantes, France, as well as "Re-shuffling of Capitalism and Harmonization of Accounting Practices: Transition to 21st century globalization in the context of earlier globalizations," at the Global Studies Conference next June in Dubai, India.
Father Jan Michael Joncas, Center for Catholic Studies, reviewed Kathleen Harmon's The Mystery We Celebrate, the Song We Sing: A Theology of Liturgical Music in the January issue of Worship.
Dr. Mary Rose O'Reilley, professor emerita of English, is author of an article, "Splitting the Cartesian Hair," in the Journal of the Assembly for Expanded Perspectives on Learning, Vol. 14 (Winter 2008-2009), pages 22-29.
Dr. Ritch Sorenson, Opus Chair in Family Enterprise, has been appointed associate editor of Family Business Review, an academic journal of family business. Sorenson also is co-editing a special issue of Family Business Review that will report research articles that presented at a conference sponsored by the Center for Family Enterprise in St. Thomas' Opus College of Business. The conference engaged family business owners, researchers and policy experts in discussions about policy that might promote family businesses. A white paper is available that summarizes the issues discussed at the conference.
Dr. John Spry, Opus College of Business, presented a paper, "Diversity Increases Gains from Trade," in the session "Teaching Ideas and Projects" at the 2009 annual meeting of the American Economic Association Jan. 3-5 in San Francisco, Calif.
