Congressman Keith Ellison, D-Minn., will visit the University of St. Thomas on Friday, Nov. 5, to give a speech titled “Saudi Arabia, the United States and the Muslim World.”
Ellison is the first Muslim elected to Congress and the first African American from Minnesota elected to the House of Representatives. He is an advocate for Muslims in America.
The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. in O’Shaughnessy Educational Center auditorium. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Ellison’s travels include Saudi Arabia, Israel, the Palestinian territories, Syria, Iraq and Lebanon. In 2009, he became the first individual from the U.S. government to visit Gaza in more than three years. He serves on two committees in the House: Financial Services and Foreign Affairs, including the Subcommittee on the Middle East and South Asia.
His visit is hosted by the university's Saudi Club, the Muslim Student Association, and the Muslim-Christian Dialogue Center. For more information, e-mail Ahmad Alkhathami.
