It is a lot to ask of current students to consider giving back financially to their alma mater even before they graduate, yet hundreds of St. Thomas seniors rise to the challenge every year. The Senior Class Gift Committee invites all 2011 graduates to join it in giving back a gift of any size to this year’s class gift, a long-held senior tradition of leaving a legacy at St. Thomas.
The class of 2011 has chosen to establish a scholarship fund to support future students who want to study abroad during J-Term. The University of St. Thomas remains among the leading U.S. institutions for undergraduate students who study abroad. St. Thomas’ participation rate, 58.9 percent, was ranked seventh nationally among doctoral institutions. This scholarship will help even more Tommies to have such once-in-a-lifetime experiences.
The committee’s goal is centered on participation, and it is striving to break last year’s record participation rate of 70 percent. Gifts of any size truly make a difference! Members of the Old Guard (alumni who have passed their 50-year reunion milestone) will provide $3,000 in funds for every 10 percent of participation, up to $21,000. And we have a strong start already thanks to an anonymous gift of $5,000.

Some students take it one step further and make good-faith commitments to give back throughout their lifetimes as members of the George and Alice Moskalik Lifetime-Giving Society, which also is something to consider upon making a gift.
