Green Team, VIA Sponsor River Bank Spring Cleanup; Community Invited to Join in

The St. Thomas Green Team is teaming up with Volunteers in Action to sponsor the annual spring cleanup of the banks of the Mississippi River on Saturday, April 9. All ages are invited.

The University of St. Thomas, in cooperation with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, takes responsibility for cleaning the east river bank twice a year from the Marshall-Lake Street bridge to the Ford Parkway bridge.

Bring good walking shoes and enthusiasm to the cleanup from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Meet at the World War I monument at the intersection of Summit Avenue and the East Mississippi River Boulevard – rain or shine. Bags and a limited supply of gloves will be provided for those who need them. Coffee and food treats also will be available for the volunteers.

The cleanup is an early kickoff event, setting the stage for the annual Earth Week at UST that will be held in the final week of April. It also provides an opportunity for UST clubs to earn volunteer hours. Clubs can log hours in the registers kept at the river cleanup tent.

This event is co-sponsored by the Green Team, VIA, Physical Plant, Recycling Team and the Minnesota DNR's Adopt-a-River Program.
