Students, faculty, staff invited to join J-Term Book Club

Students, faculty and staff are invited to join a J-Term book club featuring Dr. Joy DeGruy Leary’s Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome: America's Legacy of Enduring Injury and Healing.

Leary’s book “lays the groundwork for understanding how the past has influenced the present, and opens up the discussion of how we can use the strengths we have gained to heal.”

Dr. Joy DeGruy Leary

The book club will meet from noon to 1 p.m. Thursdays in January in the O'Shaughnessy Room ("leather Room"), O'Shaughnessy-Frey Library Center.

The book club is part of a three-part series that includes a lecture featuring the author on Tuesday, Feb. 19, and a community dialogue Thursday, Feb. 21.

DeGruy Leary holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications, a Master's degree in Social Work (M.S.W.), a Master's degree in Psychology, and a Ph.D. in Social Work Research. She is an assistant professor at Portland State University in Oregon.

Sign up for the book club at multicultural@stthomas.edu or stop by the Multicultural Student Services office, Room 106, Murray-Herrick Campus Center.
