Ten journalists from around the world who have been visiting the United States as World Press Institute fellows will discuss their experiences -- and their impressions of U.S. journalism -- at a 7 p.m. panel discussion Tuesday, Oct. 5, in the auditorium of O’Shaughnessy Educational Center on the St. Paul campus of the University of St. Thomas.
The program is free and open to the public. Tickets are not required. The World Press Institute is hosted by St. Thomas’ College of Arts and Sciences and Department of Communication and Journalism.
The WPI was founded at Macalester College in 1961 to promote and strengthen press freedom throughout the world. Since then more than 500 journalists from 94 countries have participated in the program.
This year’s class of WPI fellows come from Afghanistan, Argentina, China, Egypt, Finland, Hungary, India, Macedonia, Nigeria and Turkey.
The journalists arrived at St. Thomas Aug. 16 and will return home Oct. 8. In addition to participating in campus seminars, they are traveling for a month to San Francisco, Sacramento, Boston, New York, Washington, D.C., Miami and Chicago. They also are visiting classes and with student journalists at St. Thomas.
