On-Campus Writers' Retreat Offers Quiet Workspace for Faculty, Staff in Early August

The Faculty Writers Program of Faculty Development will offer a one-week, on-campus retreat in August for faculty and staff to make substantial progress on their writing projects.

The retreat will provide a quiet space on campus where participants can establish an individual workspace and write among other faculty and staff focused on their writing. Participants will bring all materials needed for their projects (including laptops if they’d like), and spread out for the week at tables in a room that will be secured at the end of the day.

This is not a workshop, although opportunities for individual support will be available. It's also not an opportunity for research; in fact, you’ll need to refrain from accessing the Internet or email in order to focus on writing and revising.

The retreat, which is open to all faculty and staff, will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (with a break for lunch) Aug. 1-5. Preference may be given to supporting new and junior faculty, but all are welcome to register. The retreat is limited to 20 new participants. Deadline to apply is Friday, June 24. Acceptance will be confirmed by July 1.

The retreat is sponsored by Faculty Development's Faculty Writers Program. Direct inquiries or requests for an application form to Dr. Susan Callaway.
