UST student places second in entrepreneurship awards competition
Tyler Olson, a UST senior who plans to graduate this fall with a major in entrepreneurship, won second place in Minnesota regional competition for the Global Student Entrepreneur Awards. The competition was held April 23 at St. Thomas.
The Global Student Entrepreneur Awards attract more than 500 student competitors from all over the world. The competition provides recognition to undergraduate students who balance the demands of a college work load with the pressures of running a growing business.
Olson created HelpMeTy.com, a computer support and technology business that caters to the average American household, specializing in using everyday language to explain the complicated concepts behind computers and other technical devices.
Indicative of his success, he received about 15 calls and e-mails during his presentation at the GSEA competition. One subject line read: "Help!"
Zachary Vruwink from the University of Wisconsin won first place for his company, Zach's Computers. Olson and Vruwink will compete at the GSEA finals Nov. 1-3 in Chicago.
