Accounting Club to hold celebrity poker event April 29
Students in the University of St. Thomas Accounting Club are hosting a celebrity poker event this Saturday, April 29, to raise money for a Minnesota organization that helps those with low incomes file their annual tax returns.
Students hope to raise $5,000 for AccountAbility MN, an organization that uses more than 500 trained volunteers to help low-income individuals file their tax forms. About 70 percent of those helped are from communities of color.
The poker playing starts at 6 p.m. at the Grand Ballroom of the Park House, 2120 Park Ave., Minneapolis. Public accounting firms have contributed money to have their staff members play at the poker table.
Attending will be members of the Accounting Club, St. Thomas faculty, AccountAbility MN staff, and accountants from the participating public and private accounting firms.
The event is not open to the public.
