The new documentary film "Beyond the Divide" will screen at at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12, in John Roach Center, Room 126.
Fifty years have passed since the beginning of the Vietnam War. The politics and casualties are history, yet deep scars remain between those who served and those who fought a different war at home. In "Beyond the Divide," a powerful feature-length documentary set in the mountainous beauty of Missoula, Montana, the courageous acts of a Vietnam veteran and a peace advocate illuminate a path to healing old wounds and demonstrate authentic peace building. The story inspires audiences to take courageous first steps to reach beyond accepting polarization in search of what unites us instead of what divides us.

Betsy and Dan are powerful examples of working across our differences to cultivate meaningful relationships and resilient communities," said Michael Klein, clinical faculty member of the Justice and Peace Studies Department. "This film brings hope to audiences and evidence that we have the ability - and the responsibility - to reach out to each other, and to move together, beyond the divide.”
The film's screening is co-sponsored by the University of St. Thomas Veterans Association, Students for Justice and Peace, and the Department of Justice and Peace Studies.
