Blackboard spring cleanup to begin in June

From Information Resources and Technologies

Beginning in June 2006, IRT will begin a new process for archiving and removing old courses from Blackboard. This process will not only reduce the large number of courses listed on the “courses” tab, but will optimize Blackboard to ensure the best performance of the system.

We recognize that many faculty re-use course materials from semester to semester, using Blackboard’s “course copy” tool to move content from previous semesters or years into courses for the current semester. With this in mind, courses will be retained on the Blackboard system through the same term of the following year. For example, spring 2006 courses will be available on Blackboard through the end of spring semester 2007.

On June 6, 2006, courses from spring 2005 and older will be archived and removed from the Blackboard system. Courses that will be removed from the Blackboard system include all UST courses from 2003, 2004, January Term 2005 and spring 2005. Please note that this only affects courses on the Blackboard system – it does not include community and organization sites or pre-production course sites.

IRT recommends that you create a local backup of these courses, particularly if you intend to reuse the course materials in a future course. Instructions on creating a course backup are available on the Teaching and Learning with Technology Web site.

If you have questions, please contact your academic technology consultant or the IRT Tech Desk, (651) 962-6230.
