Registration Ends Soon for Faculty Development Workshop: 'Preparing Book Proposals for Scholarly Publishers'

Publishing a book represents, for many faculty, the ultimate scholarly challenge. In fact the prestige surrounding book publishing may be so intimidating that it prevents faculty from even drafting a proposal, let alone approaching prospective publishers.

Dr. Stephen Brookfield

In the "Preparing Book Proposals for Scholarly Publishers" workshop, Dr. Stephen Brookfield, Distinguished University Professor in the School of Education, will draw on his experience as an author and editor of 15 books to outline the main elements of a book proposal. Brookfield will talk about the process of approaching publishers and writing a preliminary proposal. He will bring examples of some of his successful book proposals to distribute to participants and outline the chief steps in preparing a proposal. Faculty are encouraged to bring ideas or specific questions to the workshop.

The workshop will be held from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22, in Room 155, Murray-Herrick Campus Center. Registration for this workshop closes Sunday, Nov. 20.
