'Campus Wars' energy-saving competition is on

From the Green Team

The "Campus Wars" campaign is in full swing. College students around Minnesota are pulling the plug on excessive energy consumption. Fifteen schools, including the University of St. Thomas, Macalester, Carleton, the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities and others, vie this month for the energy-saving title. Who can save the most energy?

The St. Thomas Green Team is sponsoring several events this month. Check Bulletin Today on Mondays to read about events each week.

This week's events include:

  • Tuesday, Feb. 13: Campus clubs will compete in a Chili Cook-Off to raise awareness for the Campus Wars effort. Register your club for the cook-off to concoct the best chili. Then serve it at noon in the lower quad. Not in a club? Enjoy the free chili!
  • Tuesday also is "Do It in the Dark Day": Try to do the majority of your activities without turning on the lights today. It will provide a new challenge in your daily life.

Next week, see a free film, "Kilowatt Hours."

Energy saving tip of the week:

Carry a reusable mug for your favorite beverages. The Grill sells them. Why add a paper cup or a plastic bottle to the trash when you can refill your own handy mug?
