The Center for Writing assists students with all writing projects at any stage of the process. Students should see a consultant before they start to write and get help with understanding the assignment, brainstorming and planning the paper.
Help also continues as the student writes, organizes ideas and develops a strong focus for the paper. After completing the assignment, the writer can learn strategies for clarifying ideas for a reader, editing for style and correctness, and documenting evidence.
To make an appointment, call (651) 962-5601. Appointments are made on the hour, although consultations typically last about 45 minutes. The Center for Writing is located in Room 361, John R. Roach Center for the Liberal Arts.
Bring the assignment and a hard copy of your paper. It’s best to call at least a day before you’d like to see someone. It is important that enough time is allowed for revision after seeing a consultant, so make an appointment for a conference at least a day before the paper is due.
The center’s hours are:
- 9 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday through Thursday
- 9 a.m.-noon Friday
- 6-9 p.m. Sunday (in O’Shaughnessy-Frey Library Center)
- Call for the center's hours during the last week of classes
