Center for Writing to open Friday for spring semester

The Center for Writing will open for the semester Friday, Feb. 13. Consultants are available before this date on an appointment basis.

The Center for Writing provides free consultations with students before they write, as they write, and after they write. Undergraduate and graduate students at all levels of experience and expertise across the university come to work in the center's intensive one-to-one hourly sessions. Peer writing consultants assist writers during all phases of the writing process, including understanding an assignment, brainstorming and developing ideas, creating a focus, organizing and revising for clarity.

The staff does not offer an editing or proofreading service, but strives instead to work collaboratively to help writers develop long-term strategies for good writing.

The Center for Writing is located in Room 361, John R. Roach Center for the Liberal Arts on the St. Paul campus.

Hours are:

  • Mondays through Thursdays, 9 a.m.-8 p.m.,
  • Fridays, 9 a.m.-noon,
  • Sundays in O'Shaughnessy-Frey Library Center, 6-9 p.m.

Appointments are recommended: call (651) 962-5601.

The center's staff also are available to work online. Visit the Center for Writing Web site for more information and resources for students, graduate students and faculty.

For more information contact Dr. Susan Callaway, director, Center for Writing, and associate professor of English, (651) 962-5602.
