Century Brass presents Christmas Concert

The Century Brass ensemble will give a Christmas concert to benefit COMPAS/Young Audiences at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, in St. Mary's Chapel at the St. Paul Seminary School of Divinity, 2260 Summit Ave.

The program features Christmas and holiday favorites arranged for brass quintet by the Canadian Brass, Tchaikovsky, Rutter, Baldwin, Niehaus, Frackenpohl and Pilafian.

The concert is free, but donations are suggested: $10 for adults; $5 for children, students or seniors; and $25 for a family will go directly to COMPAS/Young Audiences of Minnesota, which works with music education in primary schools.

Century Brass performs brass quintet music for two trumpets, French horn, trombone and tuba but also expands to become a historical mid-19th century brass band, playing music popular around the time of the U.S. Civil War.

COMPAS (Community Programs in the Arts) is an organization that brings the arts to schools and community sites around the state. A widely used community arts resource, it provides more than 540,000 people in the state each year. Begun as the Art of Poetry in 1968, COMPAS incorporated in 1974, acquired United Arts in 1998, and merged with Young Audiences of Minnesota in July 2009.
