Classes have been canceled in Owens Science Hall for the rest of the day today, Wednesday, Nov. 12, due to a fire in the building on the University of St. Thomas’ south campus.
Owens Science Hall will reopen Thursday morning. The adjacent O’Shaughnessy Science Hall was not affected by the fire and will remain open.
The fire occurred at 2:20 p.m.; it was contained to a fourth-floor science lab and was quickly extinguished by the building’s sprinkler system. There were no injuries and while damage to the building is minimal, crews will have to clean water on the building’s fourth and third floors.
The university sent a “UST Alert” earlier this afternoon to let students, staff and faculty know that the building was closed.
