Dance Club Auditions Start Feb. 16; Everyone Makes the Team!

If you have a passion for dance or just want to try something new, the UST Dance Club is looking for dedicated young women to be a part of the club for spring semester 2012.

The Dance Club’s mission statement includes these goals: “to provide dancers with an outlet for their talent, while improving the community both inside and outside the University of St. Thomas campus and to promote health, wellness and a positive body image for young women in celebration of the diversity of dance.”

The club will put on a spring showcase that supports a charity. While the dancers practice hard to prepare for this performance, it is well worth the work as close-knit lifelong friendships are formed and everyone grows as a dancer and a person.

Practices take place from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. Students who already are registered for 8 a.m. Tuesday and Thursday classes will be unable to participate; however, those interested can be a part of the show as small groups (or students who are not graduating) can join the club next fall.

Spring preparation and tryouts will be held from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. in the Anderson Athletic and Recreation Complex studios:

  • Thursday, Feb.16, learn tryout routine
  • Tuesday, Feb. 21, tryouts; everyone will sign up for time slots
  • Thursday, Feb. 23, first full-club practice

Don’t worry – everyone who auditions makes the club. Tryouts are held to place dancers on a team according to their dance styles for the best team chemistry and performance. The club welcomes a wide range of experience – with some girls in the club dancing for at least 15 years and with others having no formal dance training.

Be sure to stop by the UST Dance Club booth at the Activities Fair during the convo hour Tuesday, Feb. 14, in the Anderson Athletic and Recreation Complex field house to meet some of the club members and learn more about what it’s like to be a part of dance club.
