Luann Dummer Center for Women Book Club to Discuss "The Thirteenth Tale" April 27

The Luann Dummer Center for Women Book Club invites the campus community to participate in the center’s monthly book discussion on Wednesday, April 27. The discussion, featuring The Thirteenth Tale, by Diane Setterfield, will be held from noon to 1 p.m. in the center, Room 103, O’Shaughnessy Educational Center.

13thtaleThis modern-day “gothic” novel pits the skills of a young biographer against her uncooperative subject, a storyteller who has told many different versions of her own life story. In the novel, the biographer tries to separate fact from fiction. “The transformative power of truth informs the lives of both women by story’s end,” reports Amazon.com.

Setterfield, who has a doctorate in French literature, switches fluently between narrators and time frames as she builds dramatic tension. Soon after its U.S. publication in September 2006 the book seized the No. 1 spot on the New York Times, Wall Street Journal and Publishers Weekly charts.

Bring lunch and a beverage and join the discussion, even if you have not read or completed the book; everyone is welcome.
