Exempt Staff Council Nominations Requested

Interested in promoting the greater good for your colleagues, your department, and the University? Want to get involved with a cross-section of UST professionals? Nominate yourself or someone you know to serve on the Exempt Staff Council!

The Exempt Staff Council was inaugurated in December 2008 to “serve as a communicative and recommending body that will consider, discuss and seek to resolve issues that originate with its constituency, the council or the University of St. Thomas senior administration.”

The council meets monthly, organizes biyearly forums, brown bag sessions and other projects in the interest of exempt staff. Members also are expected to represent the council on a standing committee of the university. Most standing committees have monthly meetings. Members serve for two years.

The council is comprised of 10 people, with half from departments that report to the Executive Vice President and Chief Academic Officer, and half from departments that report to the Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer. This is the first election to be held since the inaugural council was elected, and half of the council will be replaced.

The council is requesting nominations to replace two members from the Administrative area and three members from the Academic area.

The Exempt Staff Council would like to thank the following council members for their their two and one-half years of great leadership and service whose terms are ending:

  • John Barron, Service Center
  • Linda Dorn, Registrar’s Office
  • Liz Dussol, Academic Counseling
  • Kim Schumann, Enhancement Program – Disability Services
  • Jerry Sweeney, Catering

Margaret Cahill, Tony Lewno, Nate Rolloff, Sandy Schwartz and Kay Wimer will continue to serve on the council for an additional year.

The election will begin April 1, with voting closing on April 6. Details on how and where to vote will be published April 1. The new members will be announced at the council's semiannual Exempt Staff Forum on April 11, which will be simulcast from the Minneapolis and St. Paul campuses with a live feed to Owatonna.

An e-mail was sent to all Exempt Staff members on Tuesday, March 1, with directions to nominate someone. Nominations will close on March 15. Nominees will be contacted by members of the current council to confirm their interest.

Please consider serving on this valuable asset to the University of St. Thomas. As an Exempt Staff Council member you can contribute your energy and ideas on behalf of your peers. For more information, or if you have questions, please contact Kim Schumann or Kay Wimer.
