Faculty: Save the date for a retreat July 14

A retreat for UST men and women faculty titled "Challenges of the Faculty Career for Women: Success and Sacrifice" will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, July 14, in the Great Room (Room 100), McNeely Hall.

This retreat is offered in light of the recent climate study that shows a continuing chilly climate for female faculty at UST. Based on the book of the above title by Maike Ingrid Philipsen, this retreat will allow participants to discuss challenges they have faced at UST and strategize solutions.

The book, based on extensive interviews, is divided into three sections: early-, middle- and late-career faculty. The retreat will give faculty an opportunity to discuss with their peers specific issues they have faced. In the afternoon, participants will strategize ways to build mutual support among faculty in the three stages.

Participants will get a complimentary copy of the book, lunch and a $100 stipend for participation. Enrollment will be limited to 20 participants.

This faculty retreat is sponsored by Faculty Development, the Luann Dummer Center for Women, University Advocates for Women and Equity, and the President's Office.

To register, e-mail Pat Alexander. The registration deadline is Friday, May 1.
