Judging from the many purple bag sightings in the Twin Cities and around the world, a visit to St. Thomas’ booth in the Education Building is an important State Fair tradition – right up there with seed art and things-on-a-stick. The bags may be the first things to catch a visitor’s attention, but booth volunteers are the key to St. Thomas’ connection with potential students, parents, alumni and other fair goers.
Online registration to work at the booth begins Monday, June 25. Popular time slots fill up fast, so be sure to check Bulletin Today on June 25 for a link to the registration site, and sign up early to get your first-choice time slot. Fair dates are Thursday, Aug. 23, through Labor Day.
All volunteers will receive an admission ticket. Those who volunteer to work during Labor Day weekend (noon Friday, Aug. 31, through Monday, Sept. 3) will receive two extra admission tickets.
For the ninth year, more than 200 volunteers from the St. Thomas community will give away purple tote bags during the State Fair. Giveaways are distributed in controlled amounts throughout the day. In addition to handing out bags, volunteers will have the opportunity to share their knowledge and pride in St. Thomas with booth visitors and fellow volunteers.
We’re also trying something a bit new this year using foursquare – stay tuned for more details.
