Father Erich Rutten appointed chair of the Commission on Ecumenism and Interreligious Affairs

I am happy to announce that Archbishop John Nienstedt has appointed Father Erich Rutten as chair of the Commission on Ecumenism and Interreligious Affairs of the archdiocese. Rutten will continue to serve as director of Campus Ministry at the University of St. Thomas.

Father Erich Rutten

The Commission on Ecumenism and Interreligious Affairs carries forth the vision of the Second Vatican Council and its directives by reaching out to other Christians in prayer, dialogue and service in order to foster Christian unity and by engaging members of other world religions in order to promote understanding, respect and cooperation.

The archbishop announced Rutten’s appointment in the May 9 edition of The Catholic Spirit, the newspaper of the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis.

Congratulations to Rutten for this honor and the responsibility it places in him. Not only will he bring a strong interest and many personal gifts to this position, but the campus will be the beneficiary of the many insights and ecumenical-interfaith contacts that he will have as a result of this new work.
