Father Jeff Huard appointed pastor of the Church of St. Mark in St. Paul
Archbishop Harry Flynn has announced that Father Jeff Huard, director of Campus Ministry, will become the pastor of the Church of St. Mark, St. Paul, effective July 1. He will continue as director of Campus Ministry through this spring semester.
Originally from Duluth, Minn., Father Huard graduated from St. Thomas in 1977 with a bachelor of arts degree in theology and philosophy. From 1986 to 1991 he served as director of Christian Outreach for the University of Michigan, University of London and University of Minnesota. In 1994, he received his master's of divinity degree from the St. Paul Seminary School of Divinity and was ordained to the priesthood. Father Huard's first assignment was to All Saints Catholic Church in Lakeville as parochial vicar before returning to St. Thomas to serve as director of Campus Ministry in 1997.
A member of The Companions of Christ, a fraternity of diocesan priests begun in 1992 in the archdiocese, Father Huard serves as moderator of that group and is a popular spiritual director and retreat leader, especially for priests' retreats.
In order to secure a replacement for director of Campus Ministry, I will be appointing a search committee in the near future. St. Thomas will conduct a national search with the expectation that a new director will be in place by July 1.
I want to thank Father Huard for his many years of service to our community. We will miss his insightful homilies and his warm and wise pastoral leadership on campus.
