Former watchmaker, UST grad Steven Hoffman will be ordained in St. Mary’s Chapel tomorrow
“If my classmates in high school would have voted for the least likely to be a priest, I would have been on the list.”
Steven Hoffman
Those are the words of Deacon Steven Hoffman, a 46-year-0ld seminarian from Prescott, Wis., who will be ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis Saturday, Dec. 8, in St. Mary’s Chapel of the Saint Paul Seminary School of Divinity of the University of St. Thomas. He will be ordained by Archbishop Harry Flynn.
It will be the first ordination in St. Mary’s Chapel since 1980. Most ordinations are held in the Cathedral of St. Paul, at the other end of Summit Avenue.
A former watchmaker who once had an aversion to higher education, Hoffman is a St. Thomas graduate and attended the undergraduate-level St. John Vianney Seminary and the graduate-level Saint Paul Seminary School of Divinity.
A story about the winding path that led to his ordination can be found in yesterday’s edition of the Catholic Spirit newspaper.
