Fourth week of semester sees additional but 'relatively mild' flu cases

Madonna McDermott, director of the University of St. Thomas Student Health Service and Wellness Center, reports that the university has seen 28 new cases of H1N1 illness this past week, bringing the total for the semester to 88.

She also reports that the state of Minnesota now classifies the influenza-like illness presumed to be primarily H1N1 as widespread, and that the H1N1 vaccine is expected to become available in mid-October.

McDermott's weekly update is now posted on university's Pandemic Web site. This is the university's designated site for sharing flu-related announcements to students, staff and faculty. If information needs to be shared sooner than on a weekly basis, announcements will be made in Bulletin Today or sent via a Bulletin Update e-mail.
