Hate crimes are not tolerated at the University of St. Thomas
By Father Dennis Dease, president
Hate crimes in any form at the University of St. Thomas are not tolerated and must be condemned.
Sadly, two acts of such hatred recently surfaced on our St. Paul campus.
As noted in two Bulletin Updates that were sent to students, staff and faculty, racial slurs were found written on posters in McNeely Hall. The first such slur was discovered Feb. 9 on a poster in a second-floor lounge; the second was found March 16 on a poster in a first-floor lounge.
These serious crimes are being investigated by our Public Safety Department, and we have established a Silent Witness Program and Tip Line that offers a reward for information. See details here.
Such hateful activity, whether motivated by racism, sexism or homophobia, has no place on our campuses. Please join with me in condemning these most-recent actions and in being more vigilant to ensure that they do not occur again.
